A very nice looking, straight  Dynaco St-150, this one dials in from sometime, mid production mid 1978.

Beautifully constructed inside, it has  original Dynaco serial #, Blackwood, NJ tag.
This may be a factory wired unit, or if not, the assembly is the same  excellent quality.

The ST-150 one of Dyna's nicer amps ...came out in changing times for audio, during the 1970's. Dynaco's final days approached, and they really kept high standards to the very end. . During that time, HiFi was still a roaring hobby in America -- it was then that the astronomically high wattage amps & yard-wide receivers were giving way to  the silver faced, boutique jobs ... the ultra high end brands costing thousands. Most everything in the audio sector became dominated by nicely made, overly competitive Japanese brands, like Lux, Pioneer, Sansui and even Mitsubishi. Dynaco's home grown products ... always overbuilt, and deliver-the-goods standards became buried in all the pages of hype and gimmicks of the day.

USA's Dynaco faced a smaller market, as the tube scene vanished. They still however had a huge following, and sold many of these nice amps. Dyna made some very nice solid state designs. You can't find a more sensible power amp than the ST-150 . It's got pure 75/watt per-channel goodness..... conservativly rated and constructed, with lots of room inside. Well balanced with massive heat sinks behind,  ensuring a cool running, long lived amp.

Dynaco ST-150's are very well documented, easy to service and repair, and a blast to upgrade if you ever feel the need -- like any well built stock design, you could easily deliver twice the power with this transformer and these sinks..... nice to know, but you shouldn't -- as  the all original silicon outputs in these sound excellent!  Inside likewise,  the hefty, high quality glass circuit boards are loaded with nice quality metal can transistors, and nice all original caps.

I had completely forgotten, until now how nice early Silicon Solid state can sound. We never really did like MosFets, they're  too soft.  The original US built silicon transistors have Very clean midrange, and does remind me a bit of our golden Silicon standard, the NAD 3020 --  this amp has even better control of transients and punchier bass. Largely thanks to those massive Sangamo caps and overly sized  power transformer.
That oversize Dynaco power transformer, is fine for overseas 220v mains too, with a simple rewire (documented in included manual).

I gave this amp a 30min bench test. Channel A&B sounded very nice, and had no noticeable problems. This is an all original, working amp, now almost 40 years old.  Antique amps are not for the beginner or faint of heart. Before you place into service for the long haul, you should inspect the bias, and beware of aging caps.  And beware of DC offset to your speakers when you power this hefty amp down. Will arrive to you working well --- no doa. As with any antique though .... plan on repairs or upgrades further down the road as you use and enjoy it.

Cosmetics are nice, except for a paint touchup on the top cabinet, and a really hard to notice ding on the brushed metal faceplate (see exhibit B and C). This amp does not have the wood side kit. Just the nice shinny black metal sides... which looks nicer  and cleaner to me. The face insert does slide out , to the left or right should you wish to install a meter kit.
