Offered here is one, (1 single piece)  H. H. Scott 121 preamp (the original), perfect for a wonderful mono LP / 78 system.

The LP / Phono / 78 section is obsessively complete for nearly any record you'll see -- from BBS, Decca, to old RCA's -- it's all there. You also get Scott's interesting proprietary technology to supress old record's inherrent rumble & noise. The 121 also features a near endless variety of other AUX and pickup inputs.

A single Scott 121 -- coupled with a nice amp, is all you need for an amazing monophonic, period correct LP, tape, mic, CD, etc -- input that you could ever wish. These early 121's feature a mini triode packed layout ( see exhibit J:  2x 12ax7, 1 12au7) layout, with high quality point to point wiring throughout. Shielded wires deliver audio all crucial control sections. The tremendous number of switchable inputs provide a dizzing array of flexibility to your system -- I counted a total of 8 individual inputs -- 5 of which, have individually adjustable trim pots -- this allows you to get all of your sources to all the right level, then switch magically between them -- in true Audio Consolette fashion  -- the configuration everybody dreamt of in the 50's!

This is a very early model of 121; right before H.H.Scott moved the factory, later that decade. These early product's show allot of hand crafted quality charm. The treatment of these first generation models is unique to the era ... the aluminum cabinet is wrapped with real-tooled leather! The many years have left the cabinet very handsome - with lots of distressing, nicks, dings and impressions - and with natural crazing,-- this cabinet looks very early american-authentic -- kind of like a 100 year old cowbow saddle! (See exhibit K)  The unbelieveable natural feel is wonderful, and quite natural. Around the perimiter the real leather, received inlay tooling -- mostly still intact and equally handsome.

H.H. Scott was one of the top quality major producers of HiFi during the 1950's & 60's. HH Scott, before starting his own company, worked very briefly & Bell Labs. In no time at all he moved over to General Radio -- America's MOST FANATICAL, highest quality electronics manufacturing outfit. Because GR was THE leader in the test equipment field -- this history is overlooked really -- all GR equipment was built to a far higher standard -- than all of the industrial/home audio field combined ... even Western Electric didn't bother to try that hard.  It's working there I am guessing HH grabbed allot of electronics engineering, hand-on talent -- right before starting his own company -- just in time for the HiFi craze. And GR is probably where he developed his love of high quality ALUMINIUM rivetted, on-chassis construction. Most early USA HiFi brands built on cheaper steel or perforated sheet metal.

HH Scott products like these 121 preamps -- were always aluminum!  Scott's chassis are featherweight, long lived, and handle heat better ... all the while looking quite nifty and beautiful.

H. H. Scott, and one of the true HiFi pioneers, developed several early HiFi features & advancements . His most famous, and useful was Dynaural Noise Supression. Early special purpose DNR units in the 1940's featured gangs of tubes. This tube-era noise supression technology -- during the 1940's got marketed and licensed to all sort's of Broadcast / Recording outfits ... and later even other HiFi manufactures. So useful to early audiophiles .. even major competitor's like Fisher -- and E.H Scott (a scource of much confusion) -- had to license from HH Scott. Most early LP & 78 listeners really like Scott's take & method of Noise Supression -- and it's all tube -- and switchable right on the main panel of these 121 preamps.

The preamp comes fully tubed up, with vintage, tested 1950's USA built triodes. +++ an  extra spare set -- should you ever need them .

Extras Included in this sale: all that you see. Documentation, and original 1950's USA 2x 12ax7 1x12au7. Also, an entire used, good tested spares set of (2pcs) RCA 12ax7A/7025 low noise + (1) 12AU7.

This is a very rare bird. Looks to be entirely original, with exception to required, and minimal maintainence, by an accomplished area technition .

This original 58 year old, preamp presents well, and in it's own right still attractive.  The deeply etched letters are all readable, and if the owner wishes, could be polished to a bright fire-engine brass gleam!

The vintage brass faceplate has a heavily tarnished patina for now (see exhibit G). There is also pantina of wear on the genuine leather wrapped outer cabinet (see exhibit C).

Also, note all of those gourgeous original caps (some were bypassed, but many remain in circuit)  -- a who's who of the BEST for good sound .. Sprague Black Beauty, & Bumble-bee, (Exhibit (M) (known for their excellent sound, found in Marantz 1's & McIntosh amps / preamps of the 1950s ).

This unit was recently checked over and and works well! (watch video below). It was recently gone over- and serviced by Washington, DC's area finest tube audio technition. This journeyman tech, has been servicing rare HiFi for 30 years, and knows the importance in preserving original sound.  Crucial caps were only bypassed / updated, leaving many of the beautiful Sprague Bumble-Bee (also found in original Marantz 1's), and EQ Ceramic Cornell Dublier's in place -- thus preserving the original flavor and detail these early preamps feature.

The audio test, shown in video (below) features this exact (unit #1) preamp -- springing to life, working well and stable -- the sound was excellent with lots of control via the ample Equalization circuitry, and a surprisingly low noise floor for it's age. We gave it a 30 minute brief bench test, it was brought up slowly on a current monitored variac. All seems to operate as normal and the preamp sounds great, and was nice even at max settings. It's old, so please expect the occasional scratching from the 1950s original controls; with use or cleaning these problems vanish.  Power transformer was cool, and the controls I tried leaped to action in clarity (did not test all functions or switches).

Please read further & view all exhibit photos.

From the burgeoning days of HiFi -- this was one of HH Scott's earliest hifi centric preamp products. Very contemporaneous and comparable to the McIntosh C-8 or the Fisher-80C or of course, the now priceless Marantz Model 1. The Scott 121 series actually predates quite a few other options available to the collector. These beautiful sounding and extremely versatile preamps are just what's needed if you listen to classic Vinyl or even older 78s (this in fact is your best choice for 78's). The selections for record EQ  & noise filters are unsurpassed on these models for old record & tape formats. You also get a killer smooth cathode follower circuit and tons of inputs for your hopefully all tube single ended, PP, or vintage Williamson amp / horn driver system!

For those audiophiles who treasure old Jazz 78's -- set up a second system, all MONO. Use a high quality tube preamp like this, a SE amp and a high efficiency full range...you'll be very happy!

I enjoyed listening to this preamp so much....and didn't want to turn it off!

It's so refreshing to see an original piece such nice condition. Preamp is sold as powering on condition (no DOA) and original functional.  Cool running transformers; Components mostly all original --- working well  for now  -- and no further warranty -- original functioning components are as-is.

This Scott 121 sounds wonderful and is very old. So as always, even though this nearly all original preamp works well (see video) -- plan on normal maintenance. Depending on your use; VariAC or  100 volt operation is recommended but not required.

Sounds great, be sure to listen to test video. You will be able to tell how killer it sounds!

A vintage tube preamp like this can improve any system signifcantly. Especially if you listen to LP's. This would be the foundation to an amazing MONO 78RPM system.

See this actual preamp playing in video below:  just now bench tested -- tested & matched  tubes, and all are playing very well.

This unit will sell very quickly. They are hard to find, and have lots of international / collector interest.

Beautiful sound right now. Lots of inputs, controls, EQ's and great LP / 78 filters!

Listen now to this (1) Scott 121-B model, from about 1955/56 loaded with vintage USA Sylvania & RCA 12aX7 & 12Au7 tubes. (spare set included $100 ++ value)

Source in this case is digital iPod, and a 2A3 SE output amplifier, feeding a single MONO speaker, a Yamaha NS-10 type monitor.

Assembling a pair Scott 121's -- will give the ultimate in dual mono, per-channel control, LP Phono 78's, and overall EQ and Scott's unique Dynaural clarifier for each channel!

For those who are searching for a pair, to make a 2 channel stereo system .

.. see my second unit ... #2 unit. These units are matched well enough to make a great pair, and are offered for individual sale.

Addressing interested stereo minded buyers; searching for a dual mono stereo setup is smart too -- this is an extremely rare offer, as the Scott 121's were made in many different treatments during their limited production run, and these are the earlliest versions -- sporting the very cool and patina of early 1950's Brass & Leather.

Yes..Great for collectors; and listeners. This is a solid, scarce piece of HiFi quality, well worth your time. Used gently, with gradual maintenance and a watchful eye, it will likely be your best preamp!  Amazing, detailed sound, and all original cosmetic condition -- a few flaws, see all Exhibits below.  Conservatively designed and skillfully constructed, writes Scott -- very true of this era. Scott was one of the few companies that usually wound transformers in house, and used more expensive & strong aluminum chassis.

This preamp, as you can see --  presents beautifully, and will look handsome in any home.  ... it will glimmer further with just a small amount of detailing.   Face plate cosmetics are ALMOST perfect.   The real leather cabiner / case has plenty of wear and many marks -- but still looks beautiful!  Please study exhibits G,H and E for the cabinet

Loaded up with all NOS, matched vintage RCA 12Ax7 and 12au7 tubes -- spare set will be included...

This a great opportunity to score an exceedingly rare, HH Scott preamp -- with all the inputs / controls you'll ever need for one MONO channel. I consistently recommend early preamps from the 1950s for the ever increasing number of schooled audiophiles, now moving back to Vinyl and wanting a MONO horn system.

These early 121s are not easy to find --  it will sell soon.

This may be the only H H Scott 121 you’ll see on eBay or anywhere else; in such nice shape, for a very, long time — so this will likely sell quickly.   Packed weight in a double box will be 16lbs.   Always top quality, double box packing. See our 100% happy customer's feedback for vintage audio.
