the all orignial Fisher Futura preamp and tuner section model 490T, from August 1962. Excellent clean chassis and complete. The preamp is beautiful, except for a few scratched around a control (see exhibit F) --  and the common flaw -- the missing brass inserts on the original Fisher knobs. Otherwise this unit is near mint. Completely untested, as found. Will need 12ax7 Tubes -- but IF and RF tubes for FM/Am are present. Underside and chassis are super clean and complete. Note, this preamp / tuber were intended to draw power from the companion power section .. .the 680A amplifier. Perfect for owners of that amp -- otherwise, DiYers will find it a simple matter to supply B+/filament power from any number of high quality lab supplies.

Just found at an estate, and appears to have been in seviceable shape.  We didn't have time to test, and I saw nothing at all wrong ---you'll need 12Ax7 tubes will be even better after fresh tubes and a check over! Well known to be an amazing amp for the money -- great alternative to the cluttered front end of Fishers otherwise excellent 500C, X-100 X200 series of amps and receivers ))

We have here, actually one of Fisher's most grandiose front end preamps...  Why pay top dollar for an expensive receiver or integrated Fisher, when you can get the the best built, with same good parts -- the preamp and tuner -- originally powered by the sought after 680A 7591 stereo power amp  --  so you will need a power supply, then you can use it stand-alone! This preamp and tuner was constructed heavier and more lavishly than the revered 500C receiver --- why? Because the Fututra console was a much more expensive product! Fisher had a bit more room to house a grand AM/FM  tuber section, so I'd hope it might even a little better. It possibly shares some DNA with the Fisher FM1000, one of USA's best production tuners at the time. The thick anodized faceplate has serious 1960's bling (some scratches, please study Exhibit F)  . Surely a very stately piece, mounted verticly, it looks more at home in the Great Gatsby's mansion than the mid-century rancher that it lived safely in for 60+ years!

Once you supply the missing preamp tubes,  it's will be one of the better preamps that the early 1960's hifi craze produced.  While the markets in antique audio search for new highs in Fisher's most notable classics, like the FM1000, the X series and the 500 series of receivers ... the truly best parts of the package ... the  amp and preamp, here were cleverly separated, so with this preamp / tuber will get you more flexibility, with a cleaner less clutterd layout and likely sound with an outboard power source. And as a standalone preamp it's far more impressive than what the compact, more common 500 series receiver can offer!

It's quite easy to forget that Avery Fisher's mainstay 60 years ago, was to build the best sounding Stereo console system (at a consequently huge price)! These decked out, mid-century stereophonic wonders apexed in the early 1960s. By that time, they had all become stereo,.. at first complex , the un-reliable record changer had finally been mastered by Britain's finely built Garrard units -- long time supplier to Fisher for their top-end products.  Fisher sourced .. or built some of the finest OEM german components to use in their amps and receivers...and the result was a very clean sound, with little coloration, great detail and superior HiFi frequency response.

So, by the early 1960s -- the console standard moved up from 2 way to 3 way, and seriously powerful and clean sounding, yet compact amplifers were installed. Meet the preamp to one of the best large sized stereo models Fisher designed and built ... the  Futura IV.

For those wise audiophiles who would love the nice quality of Fisher's x-series integrated...or of course the 500C receiver --- but prefer a large front end and, custom with the amp of your choice .. ... this model 490T the perfect project for expedited DiY, without a huge pricetag of Fishers well known masterpieces.

This preamp will need a power supply ... not a big deal, you get get better than OEM, by using Lamda lab supplies for B+ or build your own.... then add some 12ax7's -- .... and .. after a standard checkup, you'll need to jumper the accessory connectors and maybe you'll need new caps .. cheap and easy if you're handy -- then you'll be up and running a better high end tuner and preamp than many times this money could ever buy!

This is an exciting buy .... it has quality parts throughout this original condition survivor.

The preamp is nice looking, but untested / unpowered.  Installed original (RF only) tubes look very nice, and are also untested. The preamp chassis is clean and complete, also included is hardware and a bottom cover, made of vintage wood. The preamp looks great, straight from a  condition console, still a little dust to clean off -- it has some scratches around a couple of the selector switches (see exhibit F) oth than that ... it's beautiful from August 1962!

Will be shipped domestically via UPS ground with tracking number, quickly after purchase.
