A beautiful early 1950's Tung-Sol 6550 power tube, with it's old Tung Sol box (worn from the many years age and storage). Documentation shown in photos is included. 

Study all of the photos below and view test reports. This is the 2nd generation, coming directly after the dark black plate, but has an improved getter arrangement, so you get the best of both worlds! Introduced sometime in 1955-56 which features a 40mm grey plate, and 1 large chrome top,  and the improved 1x top halo, 2 x side sale getter arangement ... the very first thing Tung Sol improved in 1955. These early examples are sought after now almost 60 years old! ... 3 getters in all , super thick, SHINNY mirror flashing on the top and sides.  The early Black Ink letters are all present,  on a still shinny nickle  metal base. It presents beautifully. The original box is included but has been worn and stained lightly from age. This very old tube has the top etched 6550 letters -- it's beautiful. 

Yes indeed, they are the real McCoy that everybody wants. Beautiful examples are seldom found in this condition -- probably the prettiest and most throughly tested anywhere.  The tests indicate very strong performance and super long projected (solid 100% even at reduced filament volts) life --  low hours ! 

When I played ... it sounded really wonderful -- and very powerful  ---- guaranteed NO DOA.  This one tube will provide the tone and stellar lifespan you can rely only on very old Tung-Sol, vintage USA original quality for.

If you are currently using a modern reproduction, this is far better than you could even imagine .  

  Verified ... No noise, great function, in circuit.  NO SHORTS, all units checked perfect beyond 2 megohms in Jackson machine. ) Tests made in multiple calibrated testers, MATCHING done on a calibrated lab tester. Completely ip & GM Transconductance measured on an AT1000 (see Reports in exhibit A,B, & F) . Screened 3 times, NO SHORTS, and a very long projected Life Test.

For easy reference,  view Exhibit B for ACTUAL tube under a full load Dynamic Emmisions test ...   ... All units are at testing at (or above) this 100% level of indication (EXACTLY  new GM response, minimum is = 70 )  indicating stellar GM & Plate current performance.

If this 1950's USA original, then I'm sure your aware that modern re-issues are not made in the USA and are only copies from the eastern-bloc Europe (or Russia).  

 The Solid, GREY, SMOOTH plate construction give this tube a guaranteed Mid- 1950s date of production. Tung-Sol designed the 6550 tube like no other -- and unlike lot's of other cold-war design output tubes ..... they were made intentionally for 1950's HiFi, high power audio reproduction = better bass and lots of throaty midrange, and very defined highs.

Audiophiles have known for a long time that earliest possible 6550's are the ones to own.  The original production design (introduced by Tung-Sol in the early 1950's), will outlast and outperform, and of course sound better than typical slipshod re-issues or reproductions of any similar design. 

These now antique tubes were made to the highest 1950's US quality standards .... and Tung-Sol's have a wonderfuly accurate sound quality, with amazing resolution & powerful bass control -- a signature of the 6550 pentode. The 6550 was part of the twilight ... the last harrah of powerful pentodes! Tung Sol, an old world industry giant. And was an artisian company when it came to tubes! Really they were a laboratory engaged in produciton ---  really next to Western Electric in quality control and ethics!  Located in New Jersey, and  they did not survive in the tube audio business much beyond the late 1960s era ... they lost out to industry giants as the solid state era ushered in -- destroying the market for perfect tubes! (They're excellent transistors didn't sell well.)

  Again, this one looks beautiful, and is low hours with box .... as the shinny & thick flashing .  See photos.  The gorgeous nickle plated, black ink & bakelite base is tight .  

 These vintage 6550's are the kings of hifi pentodes -  owners will hear enhanced clarity, great tone, and punchy bass.
