Western Electric 139QA 2uf prewar silver engraved MirroPhonic era capacitor condensers pair from 1942

 Rare find!  perfect matched pair...  nice early -- from the pre-war era, engraved letters, and sporting still bright and shinny silver paint...built just slightly into WWII wartime for the last 1930s era tube audio that would be produced -- under the true fit and finish of WE MirroPhonic era audio. WECO caps both feature engraved letters, construction from early 1940s (matched year date codes) ... genuine nearly 80 years old.  These are highly graded paraffin waxed capacitors from Western Electric tube long lines preamplifiers and audio equipment, the Bell System and ERPI cinema sound  ---  absolutely beautiful letters and shinny original silver with a few nicks and chips, and unit #2 has a slght ding on bottom (minor cosmetic flaw) from the many years. Otherwise, they look, test and the feel nearly like new (see Exhibit A,C,D,E) so very old and rare these days!  This is a matched in capacity & tested (no leaks see reports in Exhibit A.  Study exhibit (B) to see an actual unit(s) and under HV & ESR test (no leaks), both units test perfectly.

 Great looking, NICE paint with only a few flaws just out from the many decades of storage (see exhibit B,C,D,E),   Perfect for amplifiers, preamplifiers and crossovers (as a tweeter high pass, or preamplifier coupling  where they are ideally suited) and many other projects.  They have tested to work perfectly at real world operating 200 volts DC on Sencore tester. The pair, WORKING great , thoroughly checked out and found to be excellent performers - no leaks, low ESR, and verified, matched and performing perfectly 2.1 uf in capacity. 

See reports (Exhibit B,C,D,E). These have, heavy steel cases with engraved letters, thick copper-clad wire wrap terminal lugs set in etched letter bakelite insulators. They type used in MirroPhonic era and OK for FM 1930s and 1940s recording / playback and from there, well into the early 1950s -- some of the finest sounding and now most collectible audio for HiFi uses. The 139(X) series spanned a multitude of capacitance values, for many uses. The carefully handcrafted slimline steel / bakeliite construction appeared sometime in the early 1930s --  replacing the  two digit 90x series, that had been produced since the late 1890s, by Western Electric. During the expansion into high fidelity recording and playback, during the early 1930's ... WECO redesigned their caps for newer higher voltage surges,more powerful tubes, better response, longer reliability, and far better compactness. These were the earliest era of topside, studded for chassis mount -- and were widely used in the now priceless 1930s black and silver er MirroPhonic audio -- as it was they were well suided for topmount onto the chassis of preamps, both in triode / pentode designs, as well as audio filters and other amazingly sought after apparatus. The new slimmer, smaller case was at first silver , and by the early 1940s rececived grey paint -- performance remained exaclty the same otherwise, but the Silver quality and finish is most definately more sought after.

These replaced the 89 & 90 series of the Black laquer finished paper wax caps that had been broadly used across the Bell System for many years before.  

Tube amp and crossover builders DiY builders are tirelessly seeking these -- Western Electric paper, foil in paraffin wax caps have long been very sought after in Japan, where keen audiophiles found them to be superior sounding -- compared to other wax types, these have a longer life and higher voltage tolerances. More expensive sealed oil types are good too if you need the heft and higher continuous voltage ratings. For many years, audiophiles and astute builders have known that these highly graded paper /foil in wax Western Electric caps sound better in their intended voltage range (most WE paper caps were intended to HiPot in the 500V DC range for brief periods, and 200V-250V for DC cont duty ) -- and especially for use in speaker systems -- as high pass crossover implemtation. Paper wax caps are well known to sound stellar in audio ( a few boutique companies are once again producing disposible 1950s types). These caps utilized the absolutely highest grade of foils and pure paraffin wax and copper terminals set into thick bakelite phenolic -- raw materials and construction of this era far exceed the quality available today. Nothing compares to the heavy build and sound of 1930's-40s Western Electric! 

These very early caps sound wonderful, pefect for all vintage and modern audio projects.  These are the real thing, with all the legendary quality and durability of genuine Western Electric --- they may outlast our children. These are some of the last units to be found in the USA -- from unused, low hrs and (some NOS),Bell System tube audio equipment. Stored carefully for many years. Very rare now and you won't see again and you cannot find them elsewhere in such throughly tested and nice tested condition.
