A nice, complete Allen push-pull 6550 tube power amp. Looks nice, and was  not long ago removed from service. All complete, 2 original 6SN7's and a wonderful Mullard 6267 / EF86 -- all there except for (2 missing) needed 6550 tubes.

This is Model 75, and features a versatile  Acro output, .. better known as  -- Acrosound ultra-linear output transformer -- Acro produced some of the nicest transformers of the era in nearby Philadelphia. This amp has the commercialized version of (one of)  ACRO's largest 6550 output transformers - strongly resembling the TO - 330. We did not have the exact schematic for this amp, though it closely resembles a 1950's, published Acrosound schematic of the TO-330. (see exhibit A)  See exhibit B, the transformer is clearly labeled.

This amp features very high build quality, giant HiFi grade potted transformers,  and a brilliant, straightforward steel chassis. Factory wired to perfection, during the 1960s, by Allen Organ Co, around 50 years ago. The chassis was in process of getting cleaned and polished to a sheen-- this task was not completed (it has slight mottling from oxidation) -- with through buff out, the chassis will gleam and it will present nicely. The tops of the transformers are all legible, and the no dents or problems that I saw.

Produced by Allen Organ, for demanding full frequency audio output, and for some of the worlds nicest organs. These Allen amps have taken the vintage hifi audiophile market by storm in recent years. For good reason, they were rediscovered, and are now renowned by audiophiles worldwide -- mainly for their nice quality MASSIVE  output transformer (heavy potted outputs and oversize power). Made to deliver, lots of clean, tube wattage, and to last forever. With good tubes and a proper input setup, they are the best bargain in all of vintage USA hifi, if you're in need of hi fidelity &  high power!

If you only need a few watts, get a SE or PP2A3,. And,   for 5-10 watts get a 6BQ5 amp. If you need serious woofer control, for deep, tight bass and for larger speakers -- go with 6550s.

During the final days of high quality Tube audio, back in the 1960s  --  most manufacturers moved briskly to the cheaper, nasty sound of silicon transistorized amps -- disregarding the inherent quality that such nice tubes can offer. Especially if you are using sensitive speakers, and want clean, smooth, transparent detail, with out solid state harshness!

Allen Organ  company, recognized this, and used these amps with their top-of-the-line, ultra expensive venue systems.   Only a few ultra quality  USA based high end audio manufactures , like McIntosh Labs,  stuck it out through this era,. We now see these large amps idolized for their power and sound -- selling for thousands of dollars.

These Allen amps are good for dedicated and handy -- diy audiophiles, who know their way around a tube amp - not appropriate  for beginners. After  tubes, and a quick checkover on the original caps.... then you're going to have an amazing 6550 amp here, with the nicest, largest output transformer on the block. Likewise if you are an instrument player, and want the ultimate head unit.

This amp is as found, nice looking, all original  and recently removed from active use. It is untested, commercial quality and has no bottom cover.

It will include the original untested, nice looking tube compliment, including a nice genuine Mullard EF86  -- only what you see in photos, no 6550s. As with all tube amps, plan to check for original ailing caps and other typical, straightforward maintenance. Be sure your 6550 tubes are in fine working order.

The amp looks complete, original and brilliant underneath. This amps transformers will last beyond your lifetime (and perhaps out children's) --- the OPT and POWER xfmr are guaranteed NO DOA.

The 6550 (us versions produced by Tung Sol and GE) is the practically the last,  truly great US designed audio tubes (developed in the early 1950s).  Any original amp than usesnthem, with this king of build quality is sure to appreciate in years to come. A good investment -- this amp will sell quickly. Buy now to avoid a bidder's war.

Also, see this amps brother, under my other auctions. It's a bit different in design. And is the same brilliant quality.
